Jewish Family Services hosts Friends of the Family Sept. 10 Jewish Family Services Food Pantry Director Jo Hickey (left) and Executive Director & CEO Don Goldman (right) took Kansas City Missouri Mayor Quinton Lucas through the agency’s Brookside pantry location last fall. Lucas will be part of the upcoming Friends of the Family virtual event Sept. 10. Life can be challenging — whether it is personal or financial issues, a health crisis or the natural aging process. So far, 2020 has thrown a curve ball at many of us with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Regardless of these challenges, Jewish Family Services continues providing help to individuals and families throughout the community adjusting its activities, programs and services to manage the pandemic. With high unemployment and the isolation of many due to COVID restrictions, demand is up for many of JFS services including its food pantry and older adult outreach. The agency counts on the financial support of members of the community — and you can help. JFS kicks offs its virtual Friends of the Family Campaign from Sept. 10 to 15; this is a reschedule of activities planned in April before COVID-19 caused a change in plans. At noon on Thursday, Sept. 10, enjoy lunch on your own from a safe location and hop online as KCPT’s Executive Producer of Public Affairs Nick Haines hosts a virtual lunch focused on JFS sharing new agency initiatives, client success stories, and JFS’ expansion of services for children and youth. As part of the virtual program, Haines will interview Kansas City Missouri Mayor Quinton Lucas about the important role JFS plays in the health and welfare of the Greater Kansas City community. The program will be accessible to all from the comfort of their home or workplace through a link on the agency’s website at www.jfskc.org. Funds raised through the Friends of the Family Campaign provide vital financial support for JFS programs and services so many have come to rely upon — everything from the food pantry to counseling and mental health support, emergency assistance to keeping our older adults connected. Creative Planning, MarksNelson and St. Luke’s Health System are sponsors for the JFS 2020 Friends of the Family program.
