Reception honoring MCHE’s Jean Zeldin to be held

Jean Zeldin

The board of directors and council of advocates of the Midwest Center for Holocaust Education are hosting a virtual reception to honor retiring Executive Director Jean Zeldin for her 26 years of service. The event will be held on Thursday evening, Aug. 27, and will be an online gathering celebrating MCHE’s growth over the last quarter century under Zeldin’s management.

MCHE was founded by Isak Federman and Jack Mandelbaum in January 1993. In August of that year, they hired Zeldin to be MCHE’s founding executive director, based on her extensive experience as a middle-school-teacher in the Shawnee Mission School District. She was the clear choice because she had always incorporated the lessons of the Holocaust into her curriculum.

Zeldin has been nationally recognized for her exceptional leadership and innovative programming. MCHE teaches the history of the Holocaust, applying its lessons to counter indifference, intolerance and genocide and serves people of all faiths and cultures throughout the Midwest.

To honor Zeldin’s legacy, the establishment of the Jean Zeldin Partners in Educational Programming Fund will be announced.
