NRT invites children of unaffiliated non-members to attend its Bloch Religious School The New Reform Temple’s Marion & Henry Block Religious School students learn Jewish traditions and historical events through hands-on experiences that engage all of their senses and make learning fun and memorable In order to make Jewish Education available to all Jewish children in Kansas City, The New Reform Temple is offering enrollment to its religious school without families needing to be members of the congregation. This option will be available to any Jewish family in the community that is currently unaffiliated with a congregation. After this introductory year, the families will be asked to affiliate with the congregation. Alan Londy, NRT’s rabbi, stated: “Jewish education is the fundamental building block of Jewish life. The New Reform Temple has a basic goal: no Jewish child in Kansas City should be deprived of a Jewish education. Educating all Jewish children is critical to the Jewish future. As the only Reform Jewish congregation in Kansas City, Missouri, proper, we are in a unique position to engage the needs of the unaffiliated.” The congregation is ready to provide meaningful Jewish learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. If necessary, the synagogue is prepared to offer an online curriculum in response to the health and safety needs of our community. Non-member families enrolling children at the religious school will pay an annual registration fee of $200 per child to help defray the cost of books and materials. Shelley Hedrick, an experienced educator, is the principal of the religious school. NRT’s Sunday program includes weekly family worship, classroom learning in Torah and mitzvot, Jewish religious observances, a focus on acts of loving kindness, a preschool Torah Tots program, Jewish music and Jewish arts. The school enriches the curriculum with special programs for Jewish holidays. This year the school is introducing a cutting-edge Hebrew program taught through one-on-one tutoring. The school curriculum also prepares students for Bar/Bat Mitzvah training and culminates in its 10th-grade confirmation class.
