Kosher snacks in Kansas City metro

As summer officially begins, we want to share with you various establishments around town that are either certified kosher or we have verified that they serve products that are kosher compliant. We don’t perceive our area to have many such establishments, but when compiling the list it grew quite long. We are fortunate to have so many kosher snacks available to us. Enjoy in moderation!

We are delighted to share that this summer once again the snack bar at the JCC pool is under Vaad supervision Sundays through Wednesdays. Kosher hamburgers will be available for purchase as well as other snacks. We expect this schedule to continue throughout the summer.

Sunday through Wednesday, there will be a full-time presence of a Vaad mashgiach as well as upgrades to the equipment to satisfy Vaad standards. (Thursday, Friday and Saturday the snack bar will not be Vaad supervised.)

Krispy Kreme — Officially certified by the Vaad, Krispy Kreme at 103rd and Metcalf is fully kosher and is a perfect stop for a donut or a few dozen. Iced coffee or a slushie might be preferable to a hot cup of coffee these days.

Andy’s — We have verified again that the frozen custard mix is kosher, both the vanilla and the chocolate. We were unable to get information about toppings and blends so we can only recommend straight up frozen custard at this time.

Blue Chip Cookie — Located at the Town Center shopping mall. Most of their ice cream flavors are kosher, as indicated by the labels on the glass window. We recommend requesting that the scoop is rinsed before you are served. We don’t recommend any of their baked products.

Chill — Formerly TCBY, this shop has dropped the franchise and gone independent. The good news is that now all flavors of ice cream, soft serve and shakes are acceptable as kosher. Smoothies are acceptable as well, but avoid anything with mango syrup. Most of the toppings ae kosher. Avoid anything gummy, such as worms, bears or strawberry gel. Ice cream sandwiches are prepared using kosher cookies, and pies are acceptable when the crust is regular graham (not chocolate or Oreo).

Baskin Robbins — Almost all their flavors are certified kosher, as indicated by the labels on the glass. We recommend requesting that the scoop is rinsed before you are served.

Quik Trip — We have verified again that the soft serve and cones served in KC area stores are acceptable. Many other frozen beverages at Quik Trip are kosher. For the full list, including details of what is parve and dairy, go to kashrut.com/consumer/QT.

7 Eleven — Most flavors of slurpees are kosher. For the full list, including details of what is parve and dairy, go to kashrut.com/consumer/slurpees.

Fluffy Fresh Donuts — Offering a range of donuts, made fresh by hand each morning, the shop at 103rd and State Line often sells out before their official closing time of 2 p.m. They are closed on Mondays.
