Simcha Gifts is a program of the Chabad House Center and Yachad Food Pantry and serves over 500 Jewish seniors and unaffiliated in the Greater Kansas City area five times a year in honor of each of the major Jewish holidays.
For Purim, Simcha Gifts will include Purim parties and Megillah reading at a number of senior facilities. Volunteers are needed to help with the parties. Purim comes this year on Tuesday, March 10.
The committee is looking specifically for families who would like to give their children a meaningful Purim experience and teach them the importance of giving back to the community. It’s a wonderful mitzvah! Children can come in costume to cheer up the residents at designated nursing homes or retirement centers and bring the spirit of Purim to them. Children are encouraged to sing Purim songs and hand out Purim Mishloach Manot to residents, which will be provided.
To volunteer, contact Blumah Wineberg at 913-940-1113 or 913-649-4852.
On Passover, Simcha Gifts will be distributing hundreds of Passover packages in Kansas and Missouri. Each package includes a box of matzah and other symbolic Passover foods, as well as information about the holiday. Packaging will take place on Sunday, March 29, at the Chabad House Center. To volunteer to help pack or deliver Passover Simcha Gifts, call or text Wineberg at 913-940-1113.
