2019 BIAV Gala honors Kayes and Nussbaums

Congregation Beth Israel Abraham & Voliner (BIAV) is gearing up for its annual gala, scheduled this year to take place Sunday, March 3, at The Gallery Event Space in the Power & Light District. The Orthodox congregation’s annual fundraiser will honor Elizabeth and Sam (z”l) Nussbaum and Drs. Alison and Adam Kaye. 2019 Young Leadership Award
Since moving to Overland Park in 2009, Drs. Alison and Adam Kaye have been active members of the BIAV community and have repeatedly demonstrated a commitment to helping BIAV thrive. For this dedication, they will be honored with the inaugural Young Leadership Award at the 2019 BIAV Gala.
Adam has served on the BIAV board and Trivia Night committee as well as the KC Kollel board. Alison has served on the BIAV nominating committee, planned and executed one of the most successful Gala auctions and played an integral role in the recent sanctuary redesign project. Together they have spearheaded pizza night fundraisers and other initiatives at BIAV. They have also opened their home and offered a place at their Shabbat table for countless community members and visitors.
In addition to their activities at BIAV, the Kayes support many other Jewish charities including KC Kosher Meals on Wheels, the Jewish Federation, Friends of the IDF, Hadassah Medical Organization and the Jewish Community Center. 
The Kayes are also dedicated members of the local medical community and have acted as unofficial on-call physicians for BIAV. Alison is a pediatric plastic surgeon at Children’s Mercy Hospital and Adam is a trauma and general surgeon at Overland Park Regional Medical Center.
Alison serves as head of the local Hadassah physicians’ group, has served on the planning committee for Kansas chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics and is an active member of multiple committees in the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the American Society of Maxillofacial Surgeons. She is a member and mentor of the Association of Women Surgeons. Alison is a research mentor to residents, students and allied health professionals in the area, and runs a successful multidisciplinary team that researches and provides for the clinical needs of special needs children with cleft lip and palate. In her free time, she is the course director of “Fundamentals of Medical Practice” at the UMKC School of Medicine.
Adam is the vice chair of the Trauma department at Overland Park Regional Medical Center and chairman of the patient education committee of the Chest Wall Injury Society. Both Adam and Alison are actively involved with the Friends of Infant Toddler Services of Johnson County and have helped organize the FITS annual Trivia Night fundraiser for six years. 
Adam and Alison are the proud and busy parents of Abigail, Asa, Amelia, Asher, Avery and Ava. In addition they enjoy traveling, skiing and swimming with their children as well as cooking, baking and sailing.
