A ROYAL OCCASION — On June 3, Marshall Widman was honored by the Kansas City Royals for being a season ticket holder for 40 years. If that wasn’t enough to celebrate, it was also the first day that his son, Andrew Widman, was allowed by the St. Luke’s Mid America Heart Institute to attend a Royals game as it was nine weeks after Andrew received the gift of a new heart. Andrew, his wife Vicki Miles Widman, their two sons Reece and Will and Widman (center) was honored on the field at Kauffman Stadium by the Royals on June 3. With him are Ryan Ziegler of the Royals (left) and Royals mascot Sluggerrr. Marshall’s other son Jay were all in attendance.
SEARCHING FOR RELATIVES — Steve Fischer of Somerset, Kentucky, is seeking help from members of the Jewish community as he searches for relatives of his deceased father, Erich Fischer, M.D. When Steve’s father Erich was forced to leave Nazi Germany sometime around 1936, Erich came to Kansas City through the sponsorship of his cousin, Adolf Bobrecker. Adolf was married to Johanna Bobrecker and in 1933 they lived at 3218 College Ave. Erich eventually moved to St. Louis. WHAT’S BETTER THAN A GERSHWIN TUNE? — A lot of Gershwin tunes — and that’s what audiences will get with the musical “Crazy for You” at The Theatre in the Park beginning Friday, June 16.
This all-singing and dancing Gershwin classic musical runs through Sunday, June 18, and continues Wednesday, June 21, through Saturday, June 24. The box office opens at 6 p.m. and the gates to the seating bowl open at 6:30 p.m.; the show begins at 8:30 p.m. “Crazy for You” is rated PG.
“Crazy for You” features music and lyrics by George Gershwin and Ira Gershwin, this show features such memorable Gershwin tunes as “I Got Rhythm,” “They Can’t Take That Away From Me,” “Nice Work If You Can Get It” and “Someone To Watch Over Me.”
