SECOND ACT SINGLES — A new Jewish singles group for men and women in their 60s and 70, Second Act, has been formed. It is the brainchild of Linda Hyken, Jan Gratch, Vicki Mooney and Lois Rose Bernstein.
“We felt there was a need for this age group to get together for socialization and fun activities. We had our first event in June at the Gaslight Grill happy hour and we had a great time,” said Bernstein.
Second Act’s next event, a pot luck dinner, is set for 6:30 p.m. Saturday, July 30, hosted by Bernstein, Hyken and Donna Margolin Limbaugh, and will be held at 14825 Conser in Overland Park. Those attending should bring an entrée, side dish, appetizer or dessert. To RSVP for this event or to learn more about the new group, call Bernstein at 913-851-5040 or .
BBYO NEEDS ADVISERS — BBYO Regional Director Annie Rifkin reports that BBYO needs two male and two female advisers. She’s hoping Chronicle readers and BBYO alumni will help spread the word. The volunteers need to be 21 years old or older and be able to supervise and guide local chapters made up of high school students. Anyone who is Jewish, living in K.C. or a nearby area and interested in mentoring some really awesome teens are asked to contact Rifkin at !
HANUKAH IN JULY — I found myself watching the Hallmark Channel recently and it happened to be the annual Christmas in July week. The craft segment on that episode of “Home & Family” was making a Hanukah menorah. It was designed by Kenneth Wingard, based on one he saw that sells for more than $1,000. Full instructions are on kennethwingard.com. Yes, Hanukah is several months away but this could be a good afternoon project for those who are good with wood and tools on one of those summer days where the common cry from our school-aged children is, “What can we do, I’m bored!”
