Hyman Brand Hebrew Academy is proud to announce that Lindsey Paul, class of 2016, is a National Merit Finalist. The award, which is given based on a combination of PSAT scores, grades, SAT scores, and an essay application, opens the door for hundreds of scholarship opportunities at a number of universities and colleges in the United States.
“I was really excited becoming a National Merit Semi-Finalist, then Finalist, because it comes with good scholarships for college. It also helps you get into college as well,” said Lindsey.
“Lindsey is an extremely well-rounded student — she does extremely well in her academics, but is also involved in school athletics, piano, and debate, to name a few extracurricular activities. With her great curiosity, I anticipate that she will be a lifelong learner. All of the HBHA faculty is so proud of her many achievements,” said Howard M. Haas, HBHA Head of School.
HBHA teacher Claire Reagan agrees.
“When Lindsey was my AP English student during her sophomore and junior years, her vast academic ability and strong work ethic were obvious right away. Her writing always stood out even among her older peers. Lindsey’s genuine love of learning and commitment to bettering herself have well prepared her for a bright future,” said Claire Reagan, HBHA AP English teacher.
Paul, who elected to attend the University of Richmond, will soon find out if she will receive National Merit scholarship funding in addition to the Science Scholar award she is already receiving at Richmond.
“I am so pleased Lindsey was able to find a school that fit her needs as a college student so well,” said Todd Clauer, HBHA’s Upper School principal and guidance counselor. “She really took the time to discover what she wanted out of a college education, and found the university that will give her a chance to explore a number of areas of science with a hands-on approach.”
As for what happens at the end of summer when Lindsey and her twin brother Michael head off for University of Richmond:
“I feel really prepared for college. I’ve been able to succeed because I had really good teachers who are willing to help me when I had questions. I love that Mr. Clauer – even with the tons of things he has to do during the day – will always find time for his students. He does that for everyone,” said Lindsey.
