HEN HOUSE KOSHER RUMORS — Many of the Hen House faithful who shop in the kosher departments at the Hen House location on 117th and Roe have noticed remodeling is about to begin and have heard rumors that the store, along with the kosher departments, will be closing for a while. Hen House and Vaad HaKashruth have been working together to make sure there is as little disruption as possible when it comes to assisting kosher customers. The Chronicle will publish updated plans for the kosher departments as soon as they are available, so stay tuned.
SMILE FOR THE CAMERA AND SEND THEM TO THE CHRONICLE — We are looking for family Hanukkah photos to use in future publications. We are especially hoping to see families lighting beautiful hanukiyot, beautiful golden-brown latkes (cooking in oil, beautifully displayed and ready to eat or actually being eaten!) family gatherings around a holiday table, family mitzvah projects, families playing dreidel... maybe even families opening gifts. We hope to use these for Hanukkah 2016. If you wish to submit photos, please send high resolution large-file photos. Questions: email or call 913-951-8425. Happy Hanukkah everyone!

CASA BENEFITS FROM THE GIVING BRICK — Matthew Gould’s charity, The Giving Brick, has compiled used LEGO pieces into 33 complete sets that will be given as holiday gifts to abused/neglected kids served by Jackson County CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates).
“We have a family connection with Jackson County CASA and, when I started talking with their Executive Director Martha Gershun, she started telling me these horrible stories of kids who have nothing,” Gould said. “They go from home to home, foster care to foster care, with essentially the clothes on their back and whatever toys might be in the new foster home. I saw this as a great opportunity to pass on our love of LEGO.”
The Giving Brick sanitizes the LEGO pieces, puts them together in complete kits, and packages them in gift boxes with building instructions.
Many local toy stores serve as donation sites for the used LEGO bricks. Monetary donations are also needed to pay for missing LEGO pieces that complete kits. For more information about The Giving Brick, visit www.thegivingbrick.org. To learn more about ways to help the children who receive the donated LEGO kits, visit www.casakc.org.
