UNICORN HONORS LEVIN, SETS 14-15 SEASON — The Unicorn Theatre announced recently that its recent fundraising campaign was successful, allowing the theater company to purchase the building that serves as its home. In addition the Unicorn’s board of directors and staff decided to celebrate Producing Artistic Director Cynthia Levin and her unweaving leadership for the last 35 years by renaming The Mainstage to The Levin Stage. The official name change will take place with the opening of the 41st season.
The board praised Levin by saying, “we want to bestow this well-deserved honor upon you to show our gratitude for your dedication to the Unicorn Theatre and for your contribution to live theater in Kansas City. We honestly feel that without you and your talent, leadership, ambition, enthusiasm, tenacity, personal sacrifice, connections and vision, the Unicorn would not be here.” The second show of the 41st season, “Bad Jews,” by Joshua Harmon, will be presented Oct. 22 through Nov. 16. The show, to be directed by Levin, is about Daphna, a “Good Jew” who reunites with her cousins on the day of their grandfather’s funeral. When her cousin brings home his non-Jewish girlfriend and declares ownership of their grandfather’s Chai necklace, a vicious and hilarious brawl ensues.

RAPPELLING FOR A GOOD CAUSE — KC native Craig Kohn, who is currently living in New York, is raising money for OHEL (http://www.ohelfamily.org/), an organization that provides a variety of family services including foster care, mental health, disability services and elder care services. He works with the organization to help disabled individuals develop skills that will help them interact with society. He wants to raise $1,000, which gives him the opportunity to rappel down the 20-story Heritage Capital Group Building. Kohn is a graduate of Shawnee Mission South, attended Yeshiva University and has a lot of relatives living in the Kansas City area, including his parents Maury and Phyllis Kohn.
