Alan Douglas Schwartz, 72, of Lenexa, Kan., died Thursday, Dec. 2, 2021. Funeral services were held on Sunday, Dec. 5, at Louis Memorial Chapel, 6830 Troost Ave., Kansas City, Mo., followed by burial at Rose Hill Cemetery.

The family suggests contributions to Kansas City Hospice House or Kansas City Pet Project in lieu of flowers.

Alan was born in Kansas City, Mo., on June 23, 1949, to Sam and Florence Schwartz. He graduated from Center High School and received his bachelor’s degree and law degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. He married Barbara (Rock) in 1972. He was a lifelong resident of the Kansas City area and longtime member of The Temple, Congregation B’nai Jehudah.

After graduating from law school, Alan joined the small law practice of Leon G. Kusnetzky, P.C. (later Kusnetzky, Schwartz, Rosenfeld, Sailler, and Lilla, P.C.). He worked at the same firm for the remaining 45 years of his life, going into his modest office at 92nd and Ward Parkway to diligently represent local credit unions, financial institutions, and other business clients. A personal highlight was traveling to Washington, D.C., late in his career to be sworn in as a member of the bar of the U.S. Supreme Court. Alan was known to all as a conscientious and honest man.

Alan was a loving and dependable husband, father, and grandfather. He had a great sense of humor and loved to repeat his favorite stories. He and Barbara treasured their many longtime friends and dining companions. He also doted on their many family dogs over the years.

Alan was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Marilyn Katcher and Gloria Adelman. He is survived by his wife, Barbara; daughters, Amy Schwartz and Tracy Tankard (Frank); grandsons, Weston, Crosby, Jacob, and Jonah Tankard; brother Bennett Schwartz (Debbie); and several nieces and nephews.
