DRIVERS TAKE NOTE, NO PARKING POLICY TO BE ENFORCED IN CAMPUS CIRCLE DRIVES — In mid-September, the Jewish Federation hired Blair Hawkins as the first director of community security in response to the April 13 tragedy. Almost exactly two months later, the public is seeing the first security change at the Jewish Community Campus that has been implemented under his watch.

Vicki Novorr and Jim Klein are co-charipersons of the 2014 Village Shalom Ages of Excellence Celebration.

Jim Klein and Vicki Novorr are very busy people with a passion for helping others, especially older adults. As longtime good friends, they have teamed up to co-chair one of the Jewish community’s most successful events, Village Shalom’s Ages of Excellence Celebration. This year’s event takes place Thursday, Nov. 20, at the Overland Park Convention Center beginning with a 6 p.m. buffet dinner. Afterwards, author and award-winning sports writer Rick Reilly will be the evening’s guest speaker, regaling the audience with humorous anecdotes from his years covering the sports arena for Sports Illustrated and ESPN.

Kansas Citian Jay Macey Rosenblum is no stranger to history. Long after earning his bachelor’s degree in Western European History, Rosenblum continued his lifelong interest of studying the past. And after more than 20 years of listening to a story play in his head, he decided to put pen to paper and wrote a book he hopes will live with readers for decades to come.

Last week a plaque was unveiled honoring the leaders who planned and built the Jewish Community Campus, which opened in October 1988. The plaque was graciously donated by Sol Koenigsberg, executive director emeritus of the Jewish Federation of Greater Kansas City (center). Among those attending the ceremony at the Campus were Shirley Brand (left) and Susie Goldsmith.

Jamie Metzl has spent a lot of time dealing with national security issues. He has served in the Clinton White House as a member of the National Security Council, worked in the State Department and as a staffer in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. He also served with the United Nations in Cambodia. A man of many talents, he also was executive vice president of the Asia Society and is presently a principal in a global investment company. One topic that has piqued his interest in recent years is the national security implications of the genetics revolution.

The White Theatre begins its 10th season on Nov. 8 with a production of ‘Fiddler on the Roof.’ ‘Les Miserables’ was one of the most popular plays produced by the theater in its ninth season last year.

This year marks the 10th season for the White Theatre at the Jewish Community Campus, and the production that many had hoped would start it all is instead headlining this anniversary season. "Fiddler on the Roof" will kick off the anniversary season of productions on Nov. 8, on the same date it opened its doors in 2005 with two sold out Craig Taubman concerts.
