Joy Koesten will begin her first term as a member of the Kansas House of Representatives in January.

Republican Joy Koesten will represent District 28 in the Kansas House of Representatives in Topeka when the legislative session begins Jan. 9. Koesten was part of the wave of newcomers who booted out incumbents in the August primary, when she defeated two-term incumbent Jerry Lunn. She was unopposed in the general election.

RABBI Q WINS DALLAS KOSHER BBQ CHAMPIONSHIP — Mendel Segal, the Kansas City rabbi who finished second in last year’s inaugural competition, came back to Texas for another helping and won the Dallas Kosher BBQ Championship on Sunday, Oct. 30.

With the shared objective of providing outstanding early learning for infants to pre-kindergarten, The Temple, Congregation B’nai Jehudah and The Jewish Community Center (The J) are moving forward with a new collaboration.

Rabbi Daniel Kirzane presented the Jewish history of refugees at a community forum on refugee resettlement held Monday night at the Jewish Community Campus.

“Things are substantively different in the world,” said Hilary Cohen Singer, executive director of Jewish Vocational Services (JVS). “Refugees are a big topic today.”
