How often have you heard the haggadah quoted, or even mentioned, at a public university graduation? The answer for most of us is never. But that’s exactly what the audience at the recognition ceremony for the Department of Communications Studies at the University of Kansas heard on May 13 when Jacob Elberg represented the class of 2016 and spoke to his fellow students and their guests.

Summer Sounds in the Park takes place every Wednesday in June and July in Barkley Square. at Park Place. Authors Barbara Unell and Dr. Jerry Wyckoff, who specialize in parenting books, will be on hand on June 1 to sign their newest book, ‘Discipline with Love and Limits,’ at the RALLY for Kids concert.

The public will have the opportunity to get some free parenting advice at RALLY for Kids, a children’s concert taking place at Park Place on Wednesday, June 1.

HELP SOLVE THE MYSTERY — This portrait, pictured to the right, was found with items stored from Congregation Beth Israel Abraham & Voliner’s move from Missouri over 20 years ago. It has a label on the back indicating it was framed in Overland Park, and bears a brass plaque saying “In beloved Memory of Rochel bas Nesanel Schwartz.”

The Vatican Library is becoming a bit of a haunt for Rabbi Herbert Mandl, this time by way of the University of Notre Dame.

The Jewish Federation of Greater Kansas City has announced a new initiative: 18 under 40. This initiative is sponsored by Deloitte Consulting LLP and The Jewish Chronicle. The list identifies and shines the spotlight on 18 young Jews, between the ages of 21 and 39, who are contributing in meaningful ways to the greater Kansas City area.

B’nai Jehudah’s Shabbat in the Park at Gezer Park in Leawood has drawn large crowds in each of the past three years. For the first time, the congregation will hold a Shabbat in the Park in Loose Park in Kansas City, Missouri, on Friday, May 20.

The Temple, Congregation B’nai Jehudah is expanding its Shabbat in the Park experience this year. Instead of just three Friday evening services in Gezer Park in Leawood during the summer, it is adding a fourth service and moving locations for it.
