Jewish Family Services (JFS) Food Pantry received financial support from a recently-relaunched program from Whole Foods Market.

The Whole Foods Market “Give Local” campaign returned after a several-year absence, providing support to its community partners who participate in grocery rescue with the retailer.

During its December campaign, Whole Foods Market stores across the country participated, including Kansas City’s three locations. Customers were invited to round up at the register, with proceeds going to benefit Whole Foods’ Food Donation Program partners that signed up for the Give Local effort – including JFS. The campaign included a $100,000 match from Whole Foods.

More than 600 partner organizations participated across the country, with proceeds being split evenly. JFS will receive $2,799.12 as part of the program, which will help stock the shelves.

“JFS is so grateful for the decade-long partnership with Whole Foods,” said Jo Hickey, JFS director of pantry partnerships. “Their financial and in-kind support has helped ensure that pantry guests have access to a wide variety of nutritionally rich foods. It amazes me every day the high quality of the products we receive through their grocery recovery.”

JFS volunteers pick up products twice a week from Whole Foods Market’s Overland Park store and deliver them to both pantry locations. JFS is looking for volunteers to help with this effort — those interested should email .

Each month, more than 500 families shop for food, personal care and household items at one of two JFS Pantry locations – at the Jewish Community Campus and Brookside.

The JFS Food Pantry relies heavily on public donations, as well. Donations can be dropped in the JFS barrel located in the lobby of the Jewish Community Campus (5801 W 115th St., Overland Park, KS 66211) during business hours; at the JFS Brookside Pantry (425 E. 63rd St., Kansas City, MO 64110) in the donation barrel at the back of the building; or by calling (913) 327-8250. Donations can also be shipped directly to JFS by purchasing from the JFS Pantry Wish List on Amazon (amzn.to/3XH5v7Z) or contributed at jfskc.org/donate. Items can also be delivered from retailers.

Jewish Family Service (JFS) Food Pantry experiences increased demand for food support during the winter. The two locations of the food pantry need help to keep its shelves stocked for the 500-plus families it supports.

The pantry’s most needed items include cream soups, oatmeal and facial tissue. All items are appreciated. Any unopened food, household or personal hygiene item within a year of the “best by” date is also appreciated.
