Berenice Haberman was honored for her contributions to the Beth Shalom Sisterhood, the synagogue, and the community at Beth Shalom's Sisterhood Torah Fund Luncheon on April 27, 2022.  

The luncheon took place at Congregation Beth Shalom's Goldsmith Hall. Ninety-two people, including members of Ohev Sholom’s Sisterhood, enjoyed a plated lunch catered by Kim Matsil. Entertainment was by Michelle Cox, music director at The Temple, Congregation B’nai Jehudah, and Hazzan Tahl Ben-Yehuda.

Rabbi David Glickman spoke and updated the attendees on the five seminaries supported by Torah Fund. Torah Fund supports the teaching institutions that educate our rabbis, cantors, scholars, educators, summer camp directors, chaplains, campus Jewish life staff, and committed Jewish lay leaders. They are located in New York, Los Angeles, Jerusalem, Buenos Aires and Potsdam, Germany.

This year, Beth Shalom’s Sisterhood won the Award of Honor from the Women’s League for Conservative Judaism for surpassing its Torah Fund Campaign goal of $9,000.

Amy Schultz was presented the Past Presidents’ Leadership Development Award by Linda Lessner, the 2009-2010 Past Leadership Award Recipient. 

The incoming Sisterhood Board of Directors was announced. They are: (2022-2025) Beth Albee, Donna Katz, Lynda Hirsekorn, and Carol Yarmo; (2022-2024) Phyllis Abrams, Wendy Malyn, Joyce Shapiro, and Connie Simon; (2022-2023) Staci Kahn, Nata Scharf, Elaine Singer and Sarah Stras. The new board was installed on May 17.

Sisterhood co-presidents are Dini Freed and Shira Wajcman. Torah Fund co-chairs are Toba Maslan and Rita Shapiro.

The Torah Fund Luncheon chair for this year was Phyllis Abrams. The 2022 Torah Fund committee consisted of Beth Albee, Staci Kahn, Stephanie Kavanaugh, Linda Lessner, Wendy Malyn, Nata Scharf, Joyce Shapiro and Shirley Unell.
