This month, JFS is standing with the Alliance of Period Supplies and is trying to end period poverty.

Throughout March, JFS hopes to help the Kansas City community to avoid this problem by collecting period products for both of its pantries as a part of the “Go with the Flow” drive. JFS is asking for donations of various period products including tampons, pads, liners and menstrual cups.

JFS staff say that one in five women nationwide report missing work, school, or other commitments due to the lack of access to period supplies; individuals require an average of six period products per day; and period supplies are not covered by safety net programs.

JFS is encouraging individuals, businesses, organizations, schools, youth groups and neighborhoods to consider hosting a drive this month.

JFS is offering multiple opportunities to drop off donations:

  • Every Tuesday, noon to 2 p.m., in designated barrels in the front circle drive of the Jewish Community Campus, 5801 W. 115th St. in Overland Park, and at 425 E. 63rd St. in Brookside
  • Sunday, March 20, 10 a.m. to noon, Community Food Drive in designated barrels in the front circle drive of the Jewish Community Campus
  • Any weekday during business hours in the lobby of the Jewish Community Campus

JFS can drop off barrels or totes for organizations’ collections and pick up the donations at the conclusion of their drives. Graphics for posters, email and social media are available at www.jfskc.org. Donors may also purchase items for the food pantry directly through the JFS Pantry Wish List on Amazon or make a financial contribution to the pantry at jfskc.org.

Those interested in donating or hosting a drive can email or call Jo Hickey, Director of Pantry Partnerships, at (913) 327-8257 to coordinate dates.
