Leah (Marlene) Rose Hurwich

Leah (Marlene) Rose Hurwich passed away on Tuesday, September 7, 2021, in Laurel, Maryland. Born in Kansas City on November 28, 1938, she graduated from Paseo High School. Leah met Mel Hurwich while in college, and they were married in 1959. Soon after, they moved to Omaha, Nebraska, where sons Marc and Scott were born. The family then moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota, and finally settled in Columbia, Maryland. 

In Columbia she raised their sons and worked as an accounting manager. Leah was a gifted crafter and wove many beautiful Tallasim for family and friends. She also loved quilting and made many lasting friendships through her involvement in numerous quilting clubs.

Leah was predeceased by her parents Edith and Joe Rose, her husband Mel, brother John Rose, and son Marc. Survivors include her son Scott of Orlando, Florida, sister Estelle Berman and sister-in-law Marian Rose, both of Greater Kansas City, and many nieces and nephews.

Leah will be remembered for her big laugh, her muumuus, brimmed hats and her collection of all things flamingo. A private family memorial service was held.
