Gregory Martin Perlstein, 63, of Overland Park, passed away Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012, at the Kansas City Hospice House.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Oct. 21, at The Louis Memorial Chapel, with burial at Kehilath Israel Blue Ridge Cemetery. The family suggests contributions to Kansas City Hospice House, American Cancer Society or The Children’s Place, 2 E. 59th Street, Kansas City, MO 64113.
Greg was born in St. Louis on Dec. 20, 1948, to Nathan and Estelle Perlstein, the oldest of three children. He graduated from Ladue High School in St. Louis. While in high school, Greg worked in the family fur business, Perlstein Furs in downtown St. Louis.
He studied economics at the University of Missouri-Columbia. He then came to Kansas City for law school at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
Mutual friends introduced Greg to Linda Feder. They married and had two children, Sara and Emily. After seven years of marriage the couple amicably parted ways. Greg had a beautiful relationship with his daughters and they remained very close over the years.
Greg practiced law for 10 years and then chose a new career path. He returned to the University of Missouri-Kansas City, where he earned a Ph.D. in psychology. He used his calm, peaceful demeanor to soothe the “muddy waters” of the United States Postal Service, serving as a manager of workplace intervention for 19-years.
Greg was preceded in death by his mother, Estelle Kutten Perlstein, and brother-in-law, Andrew Scallet.
He is survived by his daughters and son-in-law, Sara and Jason Gordon and Emily Perlstein, all of Overland Park; father, Nathan Perlstein, and sister, Madelon Scallet, both of Little Rock, Ark.; brother, Richard Perlstein, St. Louis; and grandchildren, Bennett Gordon and Lucy Gordon. He is also survived by his former wife, Linda Goldstein, and extended family with whom he had remained friends.
