Carole Kaplan of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away on June 7.
She was born in Chicago on Nov. 9, 1931, to Lee and Joseph Gross. She is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Seymour Kaplan (z”l), and her sister, Marilyn Rhodes, both of blessed memory.
She is remembered fondly by her three children, Michael (MaryAnne), Julie (Alisa Kartch) and Jeffrey (Bernadette). She was very proud of, and a great “Nana” to, her six grandchildren, Tyler (Daniella), Alex (Anisha), Abigail Dinkle (Luke), Ethan (Drea), Jonah (Kendall) and Mary Grace. She also left behind 10 great-grandchildren.
Carole was president of her local Hadassah chapter in Chicago, where she organized lovely talent shows and held intense bridge games. She was a longtime member of both B’nai Brith and ORT. She and Seymour moved to Overland Park in the late 1970s, and she has been a resident of Village Shalom for the past six years.
The couple played bridge regularly and participated in the Great Decisions discussion group and book groups. She had a great group of friends with whom she played mahjongg and bridge for many years.
Carole and Seymour travelled extensively, including attending three Olympic games, a trip to Israel and all over Europe. When younger, the family enjoyed camping every summer and later frequent trips to Disney World. She was a great lover of classical music, especially opera, and Masterpiece Theatre. She could be counted on to burst into song regularly when a word, any word, triggered a memory.
The family thanks her long-term caregiver Amy Bach.
Donations in Carole’s name can be made to the charity of your choice or KC Hospice.
