The Jewish Community Foundation’s Community Legacy Fund has awarded $103,946 in engagement and emergency grants to communal organizations.

These grants support opportunities for individuals to participate in programs and events that foster a deeper appreciation of Jewish life, religion and culture and strengthen connection to the Jewish community or respond to financial or humanitarian emergencies.

Community Legacy Fund grants were awarded for the following programs:

  • The J: Community Purim Carnival
  • The J: Post-Maccabi Engagement
  • JCRB|AJC: Student to Student
  • Jewish Family Services: Support-Volunteer Room Renovation
  • Jewish Federation of Greater Kansas City: Jewish KC Family Camp
  • Jewish Vocational Service (JVS): Emergency Assistance Program
  • KU Hillel: Holiday Experiences by Intentional Design
  • Village Shalom: Safe Patient Handling and Care Coordination Technology

“Support from the Community Legacy Fund will strengthen The J’s ability to intentionally engage teen athletes, community volunteers and leaders far beyond the one week of the Maccabi Games,” said Bailey Nakelsky, chief philanthropy officer of The J. “This investment helps build capacity as we create meaningful pathways for continued involvement, development systems to pipeline new leaders into strategic roles and connect with volunteers as they continue to seek new opportunities for involvement.”

In addition to engagement and emergency grants, the Community Legacy Fund provides annual core grants which support operations central to the achievement of an organization’s mission or for funding unique services not otherwise available within the Jewish community that are essential to Jewish life.

For more than 40 years, the Community Legacy Fund has been a significant source of support for local communal organizations. The fund has been built up over the decades through contributions by a multitude of individual donors and is used to help pay for the community’s evolving needs. Grants from the Community Legacy Fund are awarded to community agencies after robust review and evaluation by the Foundation’s Grants Committee and approval by the Board of Trustees. Since its inception, the Community Legacy Fund has granted millions of dollars to the community.
