Jamie Metzl represents the politically naive when it comes to today’s Syrian immigration policies. We should jump straight to the facts regarding immigrants from Syria.

Top U.S. counterterrorism officials have been warning for months that the intelligence on the ground in Syria is insufficient to thoroughly vet individuals traveling to the United States from the conflict zone.

Recently, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services official Matthew Emrich disclosed that the government does not have access to any database in Syria that can be used to check the backgrounds of incoming refugees against criminal and terrorist records.

According to former FBI assistant director Tom Fuentes, “Our human sources [in Syria] are minimal, and we don’t have a government we can partner with, and that’s a key thing.”

National Counterterrorism Center Director Nicholas Rasmussen explained that “the intelligence picture we’ve had of this [Syrian] conflict zone isn’t what we’d like it to be … you can only review [data] against what you have.”

FBI Director James Comey testified in October 2015, “we can only query against that [data] which we have collected. So if someone has not made a ripple in the pond in Syria in a way that would get their identity or intentions reflected in our databases, we can query our databases until the cows come home, but nothing will show up because we have no record of that person … You can only query what you have collected.”

So how many professional security experts do we need to tell us that the risks associated at this time with immigrants from Syria is overwhelming?

America’s immigration policy has been corrupted by today’s political correctness crusade. The majority of our immigration policy of the past was based on what “you” could bring to our country in the way of benefits for all Americans. And it was implied if not unquestioned that immigrants would embrace our values and our way of life including speech, attire and behaviors. And that there would be limited to minimal benefits insuring that immigrants become self-sufficient or supported by extended family or their religious community quickly.

Now it appears that if you have no respect for our laws, do not embrace Judeo-Christian values and are more interested in creating neighborhoods of only your ethnicity and have a preference to not assimilate, you are welcome in America. Not only that, you are also free to demand we honor your religious laws in lieu of our citizens.

What was right is now wrong, right side up is now upside down, the fact that if you bring there over here, that somehow here will not become what was over there is ignored.

What is it going to take to get America off this path of self-destruction? Clearly it is not going to be “intellectuals” who work for “think tanks” or today’s political leadership which is now called the UniParty. All which pander to the few at the peril of the many. Who is going to end this corruption of common sense?

America, our light is dimming, our values are eroding into the abyss, our borders are open so we have no country, nationalism is now a four letter word, and globalism is the new mantra for the future. For those like Jamie that embrace this new treachery, I suggest they only look to the failure in Germany where it has finally been confirmed this week that 2,000 immigrants raped 1,200 women on New Year’s 2016. This according to Holger Munch, president of the German Federal Crime Police Office, who acknowledges that mass immigration was the cause of this tragedy. Or better yet, look to Twin Falls, Idaho, and the 5-year-old little girl raped and urinated on by two immigrants teens.

If Jamie would like to personally pay for the transport, care and well-being of an immigrant family, personally allow them to live with him while they settle and finally assume all legal liability for any harm that may come to the public, then I would gladly support his noble cause. But to ask me to forfeit my hard-earned labor to potentially put at risk my family, friends and colleagues to me is unconscionable.
