Cyprienne Simchowitz, the honorary consul of France here in Kansas City, organized a gathering to pray for Paris and show solidarity with France on Sunday, two days after the terrorist attacks in the City of Light killed at least 129 people. Hundreds attended the event outside of the Liberty Memorial, which ended with a group singing the French national anthem, ‘La Marseillaise.’

A JEWISH THANKSGIVING — Many years ago when Rabbi Rick Shapiro, interim rabbi of Congregation Beth Torah, was studying in Israel he was homesick for an honest to goodness American Thanksgiving. So he and his HUC classmates in Jerusalem gathered together for a Thanksgiving meal. At that time Rabbi Shapiro decided to write a service for the occasion — a Thanksgiving Seder.

“When I returned to Los Angeles the following year, I brought my Thanksgiving Seder with me and have used it all these years in my own family observance,” he shared.

Over the years the Thanksgiving Seder has undergone many revisions, but remains basically as it was created: {mprestriction ids="1,3"}“A Jewish dinner table observance of a quintessentially American holiday, albeit one that feels very Jewish.”

It’s available for all to share on the Beth Torah website, www.beth-torah.org.

ISRAEL TO U.N.: CONDEMN PALESTINIAN RED CRESCENT FOR NEGLECTING JEWISH VICTIMS (JNS.org) — Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations Danny Danon has asked U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to publicly condemn the Palestinian Red Crescent organization after one of its ambulances that was near the site of the Nov. 13 shooting attack near Otniel, which left Rabbi Ya’akov Litman and his son Netanel dead, failed to stop and treat the wounded Israeli Jews.

“An ambulance that doesn’t treat wounded civilians is complicit in terrorism. We’re talking about egregiously ignoring all universal moral values and contempt for human life,” Danon wrote to Ban.

Danon added that an ambulance not treating wounded people was a direct violation of international law.{/mprestriction}
