Jay Richard Kamin, 74, of Leawood, Kan., passed away Thursday, Jan. 6, at Kansas City Hospice House, after courageously facing many challenges.

Jay was born in Kansas City and spent his entire life here. He was a point guard on the 1953 State Championship Basketball team for Shawnee Mission High School and went on to Oklahoma State University on a basketball scholarship. After serving in the Army Medical Corp, he spent his entire career as a manufacturer’s representative for premier lines of women’s apparel.

Jay was preceded in death by his parents, Burt and Evelyn Kamin. He is survived by his love of 40 years, Diane Kamin; his beloved son, Jason Kamin; his brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Jackie Kamin; and the lights of his life, his granddaughters, Keyli Kamin and Jaedyn Kamin.

Jay embraced life, was an avid sports fan, a lover of fine foods, Sinatra tunes and lasting friendships, and his unforgettable grin will be missed by all who knew him.

The funeral service was held Friday, Jan. 7, at the Yukon Chapel at Mount Carmel Cemetery. The family suggests contributions in Jay’s honor be made to Village Shalom, 5500 W. 123rd St., Overland Park, KS 66209.

The family would like to express special thanks to Kelly Powell for her many kindnesses.
