Maurice “Maury” Daniels, 89, of Overland Park, Kan., passed away Jan. 4.
Funeral services were to be held Thursday, Jan 6, at Mount Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home. Interment in Congregation Beth Torah section of Mount Moriah Cemetery.
Mr. Daniels was born May 30, 1921, in Kansas City, Kan. He graduated from Wyandotte High School in 1940, spent two years at K-State studying Electrical Engineering, but left college in 1942 to enlist in the U.S. Army. He was stationed in Greenland as technical sergeant, returning in 1945. He received the Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. After returning from Greenland, Mr. Daniels became institutional representative of Troop 16, KAW Counsel. He was a member of Kansas City, Kan., Lions Club for 27 years, First Pilgrim Congregational Church of KCK and Scoutmaster of Troop 200 for five years at Kansas State School for the Blind.
Mr. Daniels was part co-owner of Daniels Cleaners until his retirement in 1978, at which time he started a home repair business, retiring in 1997.
He was a member of Congregation Beth Torah and the Jewish Community Center.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fannie and Robert Daniels; brother, Don Daniels; son, Rob Daniels; and grandson, Michael Daniels.
Mr. Daniels is survived by his wife of 66 years, Bernice Daniels; sons and daughters-in-law, Conrad (Janey), Lenexa, Kan., Trent (Laura), Overland Park, and Hadyn, Nashville. Tenn.; daughter-in-law, Sheryl Daniels (Larry Tuckman), Vernon Hills, Ill.; grandchildren, Ms. Teddi Daniels (Gary), Gastonia, N.C., Adam Daniels, Overland Park, Heather Williams, Jarad Daniels (Kristine), McLean, Va., Alanna Daniels, Neal and Morgan Daniels; step-grandson, Dylan Tuckman, Vernon Hills; great-grandsons, Jacob, Joseph, Landon, Logan and Aidan; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
