Miller, June Cecilia

June Cecilia Miller passed away in Overland Park on Thursday, Nov. 16, 2017, from complications due to COPD. She was 89 years old.

A native of Des Moines, Iowa, June married and moved to Manhattan, Kansas, just six weeks after meeting the love of her life, Earl Miller (of blessed memory), at a USO dance in 1947. Along with their four children, they settled in Kansas City in 1960, where June became an active member of The Temple, Congregation B’nai Jehudah Sisterhood and Hadassah.

In the 1970s, June and Earl traveled the world extensively, visiting multiple countries and bringing home adventurous stories and marvelous trinkets for their family to share. June was also proud to serve on the Jackson County Sports Authority during the mid-70s, assisting Chiefs and Royals personnel and players with their day-to-day needs.

After several years in the Houston, Texas, area, where June helped Earl manage the front office of many successful car dealerships, she insisted on returning to Kansas City to be near the family they adored. In her later years, June continued to work as long as she was able, sharing her front office skills and welcoming smile at several assisted living facilities around Johnson County.

Lovingly known as “Nonny June” to many friends and family, June was preceded in death by her beloved husband Earl, daughter Stefani A. Wacknov and grandson Evan Bratt. She is survived by her children, Kristy Blackman, Carol Miller and Sam and Hariette Miller; her grandchildren, Stacey Wacknov and Steven Gross, Jason Wacknov and Marci Curliss, Todd Blackman and Nicoal Price, Jordan and Allison Bratt, Sean and Lindsay Bratt, and Corey Wacknov; great-grandchildren, Jonah Gross, A.J. Bratt and Mila Bratt and countless nieces and nephews whom she held dear.

A graveside service was held at Mount Carmel Cemetery on Sunday, Nov. 19, 2017. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to The Temple, Congregation B’nai Jehudah in June’s memory, or a charity of your choice.
