Beren, Marian Lewin

Marian Lewin Beren, 92, longtime resident of Boca Raton, Florida, died on Monday, Oct. 23, 2017, after a brief illness. Marian was born on May 25, 1925, in Wichita, Kansas.

A graduate of Wichita East High School and a student of art history and appreciation at the Art Institute of Chicago, Marian was a dedicated volunteer on behalf of the Wichita Art Museum, Wichita Symphony, Sedgwick County Zoo, Heartspring (formerly the Institute of Logopedics), and the Boca Raton Museum of Art. She and former husband S.O. “Bud” Beren were married in 1947 and divorced in 1974. She and former husband Carl Chuzy were married from 1991 to 2001. 

Marian was a co-owner of Lewin’s Department Store, and a buyer for the store. Her keen eye for beautiful things made her an avid art collector all of her life.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Jake and Ruth Lewin, and her brother, Harland Lewin. She is survived by her children, Tom Beren of Woodbine, New Jersey, and Peter and his wife, Sarah Beren of Overland Park, Kansas. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Rachel Beren and Jake Beren; and her brother, Harley Lewin of South Africa.

There will be a private funeral service in Boca Raton, Florida. Memorial gifts may be made to the Boca Raton Museum of Art, the Wichita Art Museum, or the philanthropy of one’s choice.
