Markowitz, Edith

Edith Markowitz, 92, of Overland Park, Kansas, died July 8, 2017, at her home. Graveside were held Monday, July 10, at Mount Carmel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care or Village Shalom.

She was born July 4, 1925, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Ella and Harry Clutz. In March 1943, she married Fred Markowitz in Stillwater, Oklahoma, while he was attending school on behalf of the U.S. Navy. She and her husband were partners in Mark Paper Company until the time of his death. 

Edith was a devoted wife and a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister and friend.  

She was a member of The Temple, Congregation B’nai Jehudah, Kehilath Israel Synagogue, City of Hope and the Jewish Community Center.  

Edith was preceded in death by her husband, Fred, who died in 2001, and brothers Alvin Clutz and Ted Clutz. She was the last surviving member of her generation of the Klutznick family. 

She is survived by daughter Susan (Bernard) Goodman of Olney, Maryland; and sons Alan Markowitz of Leawood, Kansas; Martin (Leslie) Markowitz of Hobe Sound, Florida; grandchildren David Goodman, Daniel (Emily) Goodman, Alison (Jason) Rhodes, Brian (Marybeth) Markowitz, and Daniela (Josh Eckstrom) Markowitz; and great-grandchildren Ellie Rhodes, Samuel Rhodes, Reuben Goodman, McKenna Markowitz and Jack Eckstrom. 

Edith was a kind and caring person who befriended everyone she came in contact with.
