Helen Rose Gandal, 89, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away Saturday, April 22, 2017, at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Graveside services were held Monday, April 24, 2017, at Mt. Moriah Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Congregation Beth Torah or the Heritage Center at the Jewish Community Center.

Helen was born Nov. 21, 1927, in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Gustav and Esther (Weinberger) Schlesinger, and was a lifelong area resident.

She was a member of Congregation Beth Torah and the Heritage Center at the Jewish Community Center.

Helen was a devoted wife, mother and “Bubbie.”

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Edward, of 34 years, in 1991; her brother: Richard Schlesinger and her sisters-in-law: Ruth Horowitz (Bill), Leah Gandal and Gertrude Gandal, and her brother-in-law: Bob Gandal (Sonia).

Mrs. Gandal is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law: Nancy Reiz (Nathan), Overland Park; Janice Scharf, Overland Park; Susan Berkowitz (Jack), Overland Park, and Diane Glass (Gary), Peculiar, Missouri; sister-in-law: Patty Schlesinger, Los Angeles, California; grandchildren: Gordon Reiz, Westwood Hills, Kansas; Blake Berkowitz and Ethan Scharf, both of Overland Park; Rebecca Glass, Peculiar; and her nephew: Larry Gandal (Jan), Bethesda, Maryland.
