Nancy Trillin Koppel passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2017. She was 63 years old. An adoring mother, beloved wife, and revered friend, she is survived by her husband, Arlan; sons, David (Los Angeles) and Paul (Washington, D.C.); sister, Carol; brother, Tom and brother-in-law, Stanton.
Nancy was born to Helen and Ben Trillin of Kansas City, Missouri, on Dec. 27, 1953. She graduated from The Barstow School one year early and earned a degree in sociology from the University of Pennsylvania (Phi Beta Kappa) before her 20th birthday. Subsequent master’s degrees in sociology and clinical social work from Penn and the University of Kansas concluded Nancy’s distinguished career as a student. She went on to be a successful manager at Hallmark and Kay’s Fashions, but gleaned most joy from her years interacting with patients as a licensed clinical social worker at the Village Shalom and Village St. Joseph nursing homes.
Friends remember Nancy for her devotion and generosity. She was willful, empathetic, and utterly unique, a trait just as often manifested in impulse shopping sprees as moving heart-to-hearts with friends and relatives alike. She made everyone feel important. Still, Nancy was a wife and mother first and foremost. She was a committed partner to Arlan for 37 years of marriage, and a forever loving, laughing mom to David and Paul.
Funeral services were held Feb. 24, 2017, at Louis Memorial Chapel; burial in Rose Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the Koppels suggest donations be made to Kehilath Israel Synagogue and the KU Blood and Marrow Transplant Center.
