Shirley Brown Schwartz, daughter of Pearl (Hamer) Brown and Sidney Brown, passed away on Nov. 28, 2016.

She was born on Sept. 9, 1931, in Kansas City, Missouri. Shirley graduated from Paseo High School in 1948 and married her one true love, Harold J. Schwartz, on June 11, 1950. In 1987, he preceded her in death. Shirley worked at UMB Bank for 30 years, during which she made many lifelong friends. She also worked part-time for her husband and son at Kansas City Calibration Labs.

Shirley greatly enjoyed her mahjong and card groups and the dear friends who joined her. She also loved family get-togethers and trips, and she was a “bookaholic” and avid crossword puzzler. In addition, she enjoyed games with the family (when beating the rest of the family she “only played the hand I was dealt”).

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband and her parents. Surviving are sons, Les Schwartz (wife Beth), Bart Schwartz, and David Schwartz; granddaughter, Stacy Schwartz (husband Mike Foxman); and sisters, Trudy Noren (husband Ray) and Barbara Rein (husband Skip). She also leaves many loved nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 2, at Louis Memorial Chapel, 6830 Troost Ave., Kansas City, MO. Interment will be at Kehilath Israel Blue Ridge Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
