Marilyn Schoenfeld, 87, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2016, at Brookdale of Overland Park. Graveside services were held Nov. 10 at Rose Hill Cemetery. The family suggests contributions to The Temple, Congregation B’nai Jehudah, B’nai B’rith Women or ORT.

Mrs. Schoenfeld was born Sept. 27, 1929, in St. Louis, Missouri, the daughter of Sam and Ida (Frager) Handleman. She moved to the Kansas City area in 1960. 

Mrs. Schoenfeld received her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Harris Teachers College and Washington University.

She was a school teacher in the Shawnee Mission District for over 30 years.

Mrs. Schoenfeld loved to cook for family and anyone else who was around the house. 

She volunteered at Jewish Family Services helping Russian families acclimate to and become adjusted with American life.

Mrs. Schoenfeld was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 49 years, Ray Schoenfeld in 1998, and a son, Steve Schoenfeld, in 2000.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: Bruce and Rachel Schoenfeld, Overland Park; and her grandsons who she adored, Garret and Justin Schoenfeld.
