Betya Altman, 93, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2016, at her home. Funeral services were held Oct. 6 at The Louis Memorial Chapel; burial followed at Mount Carmel Cemetery. The family suggests contributions to Kansas City Hospice House, the Parkinson’s Foundation or Congregation Beth Shalom.

 

She was born Oct. 10, 1922, in Pavlovka, Ukraine, the daughter of Yakov and Freida (Goldshtein) Umansky.

She worked a full career in accounting at a savings and loan in Kishinev, for approximately 30 years.

Betya was one of seven children, the last child of a very large family. 

She was a 36-year member of Congregation Beth Shalom, joining after arriving from the Ukraine in 1980.

Betya had a very full life with her large, extended family. She was a very loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who enjoyed entertaining her family and friends. Betya loved to cook, was easy going, friendly and always had a positive and “healing” demeanor.

She was happily married for 67 years to the love of her life, her husband Yakov.

Betya was preceded in death by her parents; she is survived by her husband, Yakov; daughters and sons-in-law: Rimma and Boris Livak and Flora and Gustav Faverman, all of Overland Park, Kansas; grandchildren: Misha Livak, Lidia Faverman and Eran Segev, Shelly and Alex Malyarov; great-grandchildren: Destiny Livak, Kirsten Livak, Micah Segev, Maya Segev and Isabella Malyarov.

Betya will be greatly missed by everyone who had the pleasure to know her.
