Royal Eichenberg, 94, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away Oct. 9, 2016. Graveside service and interment will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, at Sheffield Cemetery.

Royal was born July 31, 1922, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Jacob and Rose Eichenberg. He graduated from Northeast High School in 1941 and attended Westminster Choir College and later the Kansas City Conservatory of Music. Royal was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II serving in the Pacific Theatre in Papua New Guinea and the Philippines as a radio technician from 1943 to 1945. He worked for many years at the Main Post Office in Kansas City from 1952 until his retirement in 1989. 

Royal loved music. He was an accomplished organist and musician, a choir director, and a former member of the Kehilath Israel Synagogue High Holy Day Choir. He also enjoyed traveling to visit his family and friends.

Royal was preceded in death by his parents; an older brother, Barnett Eichenberg; his sisters, Dorothy Agron, Mildred Zeldin and a niece, Barion Eichenberg.

Survivors include his sister, Leah Doria; nephews, Frank Agron, Richard Zeldin, George Eichenberg (Katy), Robert Doria, Michael Doria (Debra); nieces, Marsha Cook (Duane), Roberta Tenzer (Randy), Pam Zeldin, Karla Zeldin (Jim Korn), Karen Zeldin and many loving great, and great-great nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the UMKC Conservatory of Music and Dance or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
