Frederick “Fred” Marvin Stein, 89, died Sept. 20, 2016. Graveside service and interment will be were Sept. 22, 2016 , at Sheffield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shriner’s Children’s Hospital in St. Louis or to a charity of the donor’s choice.

 

Fred was born June 4, 1927, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Jacob and Rebecca Stein. He was a lifelong area resident and attended Kansas City schools graduating from Central High School. He served in the U.S. Navy at the end of World War II on the USS Sturgis, a Navy troop carrier. Fred also served during the Korean War transferring to the U.S. Marines where he served as a Corpsman/Medic for both groups. 

Fred married Marion Gilgus in 1948 after returning from the service. He owned and operated Seven Oaks United Super Grocery Store for three years. He married Shifra Spitcaufsky in 1969, they later divorced in late 1974. He then met and married Vicki Solomon in 1975. Fred worked for Zep Manufacturing and Sales for 39 years retiring in 1998. 

Fred was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Gary Stein. Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Vicki Stein, of the home; daughter, Janet (Robert) Fullington, Plano, Texas; sons, Jason (Erica) Stein, Boca Raton, Florida, Matthew (Kelli) Stein, Columbia, Missouri, Eric (Whitney) Stein, Independence, Missouri, and seven grandchildren.
