Marian Shapiro, 98, of Overland Park, Kan., passed away Dec. 20, 2014. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 23, at Louis Memorial Chapel; burial followed at Sheffield Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions to a charity of their choice.

 

Marian was born Nov. 15, 1916, in Kansas City, Mo. She was one of 11 children born to Benjamin and Esther Arenson. Marian was employed for eight years with the Internal Revenue Service, and 20 years with the Department of Agriculture, retiring in 1978. On Dec. 1, 1945, she married Bennie Shapiro in San Antonio, Texas. She and her husband owned Broadway Shoe Repair, Prairie Village Shoe Repair and Blue Ridge Shoe Repair. 

Marian was a member of the Jewish War Veterans Auxiliary and The Veshay Club. She was a long-time member of Congregation Beth Israel Abraham & Voliner and was currently a member of Kehilath Israel Synagogue. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bennie Shapiro, in 1985. Survivors include her sisters, Shirley Shapiro and Natalie Crosner, both of Los Angeles, Calif.; as well as many nieces and nephews.
