Ida Mae Blackman

Ida Mae Blackman, 97, passed away on Monday, Nov. 10, 2014, at Aberdeen Village, her home for the past seven years. Services were held Nov. 11 at Louis Memorial Chapel; burial at Mount Carmel Cemetery.

 

She was born in Kansas City, Mo., to the late Bessie and Ben Richman and lived here her entire life. She attended Paseo High School and was a proud honor roll student. Ida Mae’s life revolved around her family and many lifelong friends. She and her husband, Abe, had a loving 67 years of marriage and enjoyed a wonderful social life with their friends at Meadowbrook Country Club, playing cards every week. She and Abe enjoyed taking groups on trips to Las Vegas and eventually, after Abe retired, they continued to take many memorable trips including to Israel and multiple trips to Hawaii. Ida Mae was a wonderful cook and the family shared many delicious dinners at her home. She was a beautiful woman and to the day she passed away, she had incredible wrinkle-free skin. During her final weeks, she has been surrounded by her loving family and compassionate care givers from Aberdeen Village.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Abe; brother and sister-in-law Sonny and Estelle Richman; brothers-in-law, Jack and David Blackman; and sister-in-law, Muriel Blackman. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, daughter Anita Chaplick (Sam) and son Paul Blackman (Susie); sister-in-law, Sue Blackman; grandchildren, Mindy Lindeman Riley (David), Andrea Price (Kent), Ben Blackman (Abby), Buddy Blackman, Stephen Chaplick (Allison), Andy Tretiak (Carla), Katie Zeldin (Ryan), Baruch Tretiak (Leora), Mark Chaplick, Craig Chaplick and Melanie Fletcher (Bill). She also leaves behind 30 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
