Jo Ann Smith, 87, Shawnee, Kan., died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2014, at her home. Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 3, in the Yukon Chapel at Mt. Carmel Cemetery. The family suggests contributions to B’nai B’rith or a charity of the donor’s choice.
{mprestriction ids="1"}Jo Ann was born in Kansas City, Mo., on May 9, 1927, the daughter of Isidore and Marie Bernstein, and was a lifelong area resident. She graduated from Southwest High School and attended the University of Wisconsin. Jo Ann married Robert L. Smith in 1971. As an owner of Arbor Nall Farm Nursery with her first husband Ira Stein, and then as owner of Four Seasons Sunrooms/Jo Ann Smith Landscape Design, she and Bob together spent their lives beautifying the world around them.
Jo Ann was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, Ira A. Stein and an infant son, Jimmy Stein.
Jo Ann is survived by her husband, Robert L. Smith, her brother Jerome Bernstein (Sandy), of Kansas City, Mo., her sons John Stein (Elizabeth Warner) of Jamaica Plain, Mass., and Richard Stein (Mary Howe) of Lawrence, Kan.; her grandchildren Sarenna Rosario (Francisco) of Stockton, Mass., Hannah Stein of Boston, William Stein of Lawrence, Gianna Robinson (Ken) of Newfane, Vt., Corina Willette (Randy) of Ossipee, N.H.; and nine great-grandchildren.
