Florence Morgen

Florence Morgen, 93, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, passed away on Sept. 30. Funeral services were held Oct. 2 at Downing & Lahey Mortuary East, followed by burial at Highland Cemetery, both in Wichita, Kan.

{mprestriction ids="1"}Florence was born in New York on Feb. 25, 1921, to Pauline (Gelbcrone) and Philip Fleitman and moved to Wichita shortly thereafter. She attended Mount Carmel Academy Boarding School from fifth grade through high school graduation and then attended Fairmount College.

In her early 20s she moved to New York City, where she met the love of her life, Daniel D. Morgen in March 1946. On a purported cross country trip, Dan stopped off in Chipita Park, Colo., and proposed to Florence in the summer of 1947. They were married in Wichita at the Allis Hotel on Oct. 19, 1947, and together they raised their three children.

Florence was an active member of Temple Emanu-El and its sisterhood. She was also a member of Hadassah, B’nai Brith Women and Petroleum Wives Association.

Florence was preceded in death by her parents, Pauline and Philip Fleitman. She is survived by her husband, Dan of almost 67 years; her sons, John of Wichita and Robert (Becky) Morgen of Walla Walla, Wash., and her daughter, Dana Morgen (Doug Fay) of Overland Park. She was blessed with eight grandchildren, Aly (Chris) Wren, Philip (Yael) Fay, Ilana Fay, Nathan Fay, Sarah Morgen and Jake Morgen. Florence was also blessed with special friends and caregivers: Dawn, RuthAnn, Kala, Shalita and the staff at Regent Park and St. Francis Hospital fourth floor.

Florence made her life a blessing. To know her was to love her and she will always be remembered for her gentle soul, kindness, smile and the twinkle in her beautiful blue eyes.
