Charno, Libby Ellis

Libby Ellis Charno, 101, passed away Thursday, May 8, 2014, at Delmar Gardens.

Graveside services were held Sunday, May 11, at Sheffield Cemetery. The family suggests contributions to Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Libby was born October 6, 1912, in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of Abram and Esther (Studna) Ellis, and was a lifelong area resident.

She was a model for Wolff Brother’s in the 1930’s, then worked in the Hadassah Thrift Shop for many years. 

In 1935, Libby married Ted Charno and was married for 54 years until his death in 1989.

Libby returned to work in 1955 after raising her daughter, Julianne. She worked for the Palace Clothing Co,  Prairie  Village,  then  in  the  accounting de-partment for the City of Kansas City until her retirement.

She was a former member of The Temple, Congregation B’nai Jehudah, Hadassah and the Eastern Star.

Libby volunteered with Hadassah, played bridge, was an avid reader, a terrific cook and most of all, loved her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ted Charno; brother, Harry Ellis; and her sisters, Ruth Shalinsky Newberg, Goldie Lewis and Helen Tiber.

Libby is survived by her daughter, Julianne Charno, of Overland Park.
