Gather KC, a Jewish, volunteer-led young adult organization, recently hosted a latke recipe competition.

The “Chanukah Latke Cook-Off” took place on Dec. 12, and multiple teams of three tried to make the best latkes and impress judges.

Judges Megan Pener, Victor Wishna and Mira Mitchell deemed the Horesh family team — known as “SephardiQue” and frequent contender in past KC Kosher BBQ Festivals — the maker of the best latke. The runner-up team consisted of Hyman Brand Hebrew Academy students Simon Granoff, Zachary Granoff and Eitan Silver.

In addition to the latke competition, the event included kosher charcuterie, snacks and drinks for those not competing.

“Our attendance was great, and feedback was overwhelmingly positive,” said Yosef Silver, Gather KC committee member.

Gather KC is a volunteer-led organization supported by Torah Learning Center for Kansas City Jews in their 20s, 30s, 40s and 50s. More information about Gather KC is available at gatherkc.org
