The history of Congregation Ohev Sholom, once the oldest operating Jewish congregation in Kansas, is now preserved in the new Ohev Sholom Memorabilia Room at Congregation Beth Shalom.

More than 60 congregants attended the dedication of the room on Oct. 29, which included the hanging of a mezuzah by Beth Shalom’s Rabbi David Glickman and Ohev Sholom Memorabilia Committee Chair Audrey Asher.

Ohev Sholom and Beth Shalom, both Conservative synagogues, merged in July of 2022 (the merged congregation retains the name and location of Beth Shalom). The creation of a “respectful and dignified” Ohev Sholom Memorabilia Room was one of the items agreed upon in the congregations’ merger plans

Ohev Sholom’s history can be traced back to 1877, and much of the congregation’s history and many historical items are on display in the Memorabilia Room.
