A number of musicians will be sharing their favorite American and Hebrew/Israeli songs as a musical tribute to the Hadassah-affiliated educators being honored at the Hadassah Greater Kansas City 5th Annual Touch of Red Gala.

The gala will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12, in the JCC Social Hall. The cost is $36 per person; honorees are complimentary.

Among the musicians who will be performing are Michelle Cox, music director, The Temple, Congregation B’nai Jehudah; Cantor Aron Hayoun, hazzan, Kehilath Israel Synagogue; Rabbi Jonathan Rudnick, Jewish community chaplain; Rabbi Scott White, retired rabbi, Congregation Ohev Sholom; and Lezlie Zucker, music coordinator, Congregation Beth Torah. Rabbi White is acting as coordinator of the tribute.

Active and retired Hadassah-affiliated teachers who identify themselves as educators and have taught at any level from preschool to adult in either a Judaic or secular classroom are welcome to attend and be honored.

The event will include a Vaad HaKashruth-approved wine and dessert reception. Hadassah National Educators Council Co-Chair Karen Bloom of Oakland, California, will provide the latest information on the Educators Council to be launched by National Hadassah in January.

Those educators not yet affiliated with Hadassah may join prior to the Gala and be honored. Annual membership is $36 (or $250 for life). Men can become Hadassah Associates — men who support the mission of Hadassah — at $250 for life.

The Gala is open to the community. Proof of COVID-19 vaccination status, including booster, if eligible, is required to attend this event. Attendees are encouraged to wear something red to celebrate.

Registration can be done on hadassahmidwest.org/GKCRedGala. Registration ends Nov. 10. Those wanting to receive an electronic invitation or more information can contact co-chairs Marian Kaplan at  or Rita Shapiro at
