Jewish Federation of Greater Kansas City is hosting a mission to Mexico City from September 7 to 12.

Community members are invited to join and learn about this vibrant Jewish community’s rich history, which dates to the late 1400s.

"It's our first Federation mission and our first trip to Mexico City. We're excited to have this chance to explore one of the world’s most culturally rich cities — the architecture, the art, the history, the food — of course, the food,” said Victor and Annie Wishna, mission co-chairs.

Mission participants' days will explore everything from the Museum of Tolerance and The Palace of Fine Arts to The National Museum of Anthropology and a myriad of Jewish institutions. They will explore Mexico City’s historical and archaeological sites including Teotihuacan, home of the pyramids, a UNESCO world heritage site.

Mission participants will also experience Shabbat services and dinner at Bet El synagogue with its members.

“We are excited that we will get to meet members of the large and diverse Jewish community, to learn about their stories directly from them — these are experiences that you only get when you take part in a Federation mission,” the Wishnas said.

The group will be staying at the JW Marriott Hotel in the famed Polanco District, known for its cultural diversity and home to one of the largest Jewish communities in Mexico and is within walking distance of several synagogues. The area is also known for its luxury shopping, its proximity to parks and to many of the city’s iconic landmarks.
