Hadassah Greater Kansas City will celebrate the 20th anniversary of its Hadassah Nurses Council Walk for Health with a return to an in-person walk on Sunday, May 8 (Mother’s Day) from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at Gezer Park, 13251 Mission Rd, Leawood, KS 66209.

There will be no Zoom component to this year’s walk.

In 2002, the local Hadassah Nurses Council began this annual walk in the park during National Nurses Week as a way to promote walking as exercise and raise funds for their sister nurses at Hadassah hospitals in Jerusalem.

This year, voluntary contributions in honor of the local Council or in honor or memory of a nurse or loved one will benefit the Hadassah Medical Organization (HMO) for its Ukraine response. HMO teams continue to travel to the Hadassah Medical Clinic in Przemysl, Poland, near the Poland-Ukraine border, treating thousands of patients.

There is also a new pediatric clinic in nearby Korczowa, Poland, to treat babies, children and teens. HMO personnel have received encouragement and acknowledgment of their role from the World Health Organization, Polish Red Cross and the Ukrainian government.

The local chapter hopes that members and associates will show their support for those Hadassah nurses and doctors who have stepped up to be part of this humanitarian response.

As has been the tradition at this walk, the names of all donors will be entered into a drawing. Every Hadassah member or associate in the entire U.S. who makes a donation of $20 (or a multiple of $20) to Hadassah toward this walk will be eligible to win a free Hadassah Life Membership for the donor or a person of her/his choice ($20/ticket).

In addition, every Hadassah-affiliated in-person attendee will receive one free ticket toward the drawing. Recipients of the Life Membership can be any age and reside anywhere in the U.S.

Registration of all participants in the walk is required at hadassahmidwest.org/GKCwalk by May 5. There is no registration fee.

Donations may also be sent to Hadassah GKC, c/o Marian Kaplan, 3909 West 101st Terrace, Overland Park, KS 66207, and must be received before the walk to be eligible for the drawing. Participants are welcome to make donations at the park on the day of the walk.

Proof of COVID-19 vaccination status is required to attend this event. Attendees must have their vaccination card with them or on their smartphone and will be required to show it in order to participate. A Hadassah waiver form must be signed either online during registration or at the time of the walk. Outdoor wearing of a mask is optional. For everyone’s health and safety, there will be no exceptions to this policy.
