MeltonKC, powered by HBHA, continues to offer a varied selection of 2020-21 courses to engage, connect and offer thought-provoking discussion among students of all ages and stages of Jewish learning. Currently, all classes are virtual, though some classes plan to meet outside (when possible) or reconvene when it is safe to return in person.
“What I love most about MeltonKC classes right now? That our virtual classes provide a wonderful way to connect, engage and delve into new topics. Now, more than ever, our Jewish teachings can be applied to our lives today, helping us understand our own responses to what is happening in the world around us,” said Megan Pener, MeltonKC director.
Among MeltonKC’s adult Jewish educational offerings this year is Beyond Borders: The History of the Arab-Israeli Conflict. This newer class is a 10-week series that provides students with a strong historical overview from the late 19th century through present day. The class looks at this ongoing conflict through the lens of religion, culture, history, politics, economics, identity and survival.
The course is taught by Bill Greenberg, a retired U.S. Army lieutenant colonel. Having served for 28 years in all dimensions of military operations throughout the U.S., Middle East, Europe and Asia, Greenberg’s knowledge of peacekeeping operations lends itself particularly well to this coursework.
“If you’re interested in Israel and its military history, don’t miss this class. Thanks to his on-the-ground work during peacekeeping operations in the Middle East, he shared stories and insights you wouldn’t get anywhere else. Bill could be teaching anywhere in the world right now. We are lucky to have him here in Kansas City,” said Joseph Martin, MeltonKC student.
