Because of Rock Chalk Shabbat’s virtual setting on Friday, Nov. 6, students will not be able to share a festive dinner with their KU community at the Kansas Union like years prior. However, KU Hillel is providing students with to-go dinners to share with their friends while watching services.
These boxes, called Shabboxes, will come with dinner options and a complete Shabbat kit (including fresh challah, grape juice, Kiddush cup, candles, KU Hillel challah cover and more), all for students to enjoy Rock Chalk Shabayit — this year’s name as KU students will be celebrating from their bayits (homes).
“I’m really excited for the Shabboxes because it’s a nice way to make the event feel closer to in-person, and what student doesn’t love a good dinner,” said Paul Samberg, KU junior.
The Shabbox and dinner are free for every KU student who signs up at kuhillel.org/rcs. Thanks to generous donations from the community, KU Hillel is able to provide this for all of its students. From adding custom amounts to donations to ordering Shabboxes of their own, KU Hillel is grateful for the support of its community.
